Here at Grand Auto Detail we strive for perfection in every aspect that we cover on our customers car, wether it be from wheels to paintwork to even ashtrays we want every thing to be perfect and there's no compromise when it comes to our standards.
We use an amazing range of quality products from the likes of Meguires, Chemical guys, Dodo juice, Collinite, Autoglym, Zaino and many more, all of which have been tried and tested by Grand Auto Detail and proven to give stunning results. With such a great range at our disposal were confident we can achieve an amazing finish on any car.
Some of the methods we mention in our services list such as clay barring and TBM you may not be to familiar with so we decided to give a little run down on what some of the more less herd of terms are..
TBM..
As the name states we use to buckets of water, one containing the wash solution and the other containing clean fresh water. If your unfamiliar with detailing etc this next bit may surprise you somewhat! SPONGES are a huge No No when it comes to cleaning cars unless you are using non silicone sponges which have been specifically designed for the use on cars. Your general 99p sponges are the ones that should be avoided at any cost and heres why.
Sponges have a very tight cellular structure which allows water to pass through but not dirt, meaning as you wipe your car down with your sponge any dirt/mud/stones are effectively trapped between the paint and the sponge and as you can imagine thats not the best combination in the world, this enivitably leads to Swirl marks which are hundreds and hundreds of tiny scratches on the paints surface this can be seen by either looking at different angles when the sun is shinning of your car or when you go into an underground or multi-story car park where the halogen lighting tends to show up all the defects on cars paintwork.
To get around this problem we use sheepskin/micro-fibre washmitts and silicone free sponges these have a huge surface area and instead of dragging dirt across the surface the dirt is absorbed into the pile of the mitts and cell structure thus taking it away from the paintwork allowing the car to be cleaned without fear of inducing scratches.
Why two buckets you might ask well as mentioned before one contains the washing solution and the other clean water, after each panel had been wiped down using the wash mitt the mitt is dunked into the clean water before being dunked back into the wash solution to get more suds for the next panel. This allows all the dirt and grit collected from each panel to be washed out of the mitt into one bucket without contaminating the wash solution with dirt, which may then be reused and wiped onto another panel. This teamed up with the use of sheepskin wash mitts means that swirls caused by washing the car are almost zero.
Snow Foam...
Snow foam is a pre-wash stage that helps to remove as much dirt off the surface of a car as possible. The foam encapsulates dirt and grime and as it falls of the car takes it with it. This is performed before the car is washed using the TBM to again greatly reduce the chances of creating swirl marks in the paintwork. Not only does snow foam provide a valuable and practical way of removing dirt from a car its also got to be said its great fun too.
Clay Bar..
Clay bar is a form of synthetic clay and we use to remove bonded contamination from the paintworks surface. This contamination can be any number of things like dust, mud, tar, industrial fallout and tree sap. The clay is gently wiped along the paintworks surface aided by a quick detailer spray which provides lubrication to the clay stopping it from damaging the paint, its very evident after the claying process is completed at just how much contamination is present even on cars that appear in sparkling condition the paint no longer feels rough to the touch and is now as smooth as glass this allows waxes and paint sealants to bond to be the paint much more effectively.
Drying Towels..
Another part of our process is the use of drying towels this step replaces the use of traditional chamois, like using sponges during the wash process chamois are also responsible for there fare share of swirls in cars paintwork and like sponges they tend to drag particles of dust onto the paint instead of absorbing them into the pile. Thats where drying towels come in firstly they are hugely absorbent and unlike a chamois could easily dry two medium size cars before they need to be rung out and along with there efficiency at preventing scratches to the paintwork this makes them the most effective way to dry a car safely.
As you can see we take great steps in reducing the damage that wash stages cause to paintwork and thats not even the end of our steps to producing the safest car washing process we can.
